LESSON 10 The Computer as a Tutor

LESSON 10
                        The Computer as a Tutor

The computer is one of the wonders of human ingenuity, even in its original design in the 1950s to carry out complicated mathematical and logical operations. With the invention of the microcomputer the PC has become the tool for programmed instruction. The computer can be a tutor in effect relieving the teacher of many activities in his\her personal role as classroom tutor. It should be made clear, however, that the computer cannot totally replace the teacher since the teacher shall continue to play the major roles of information deliverer and learning environment controller. The teacher must insure that students have the need knowledge and skills for any computer activity.
It is true that computer has a great impact in our learning because it is very helpful, through the use of computer we can really get lots of information that is very useful in our projects, reports and etc.
Most of the people now a days believed that computer is like a teacher because it is the one who provide us already a lot of ideas if we don’t know that certain problems or projects. But we should also think that in the classroom scenario, still the presence of the teacher is very important no gadget can replace the importance of a teacher in the classroom because every now and then they are our guide in learning.
As a future teacher we must really try our best to guide our student what is right or wrong because now a days they are really being influence in many things, some of then cannot live without the use of different gadget, yes technology is very important but we should also  put in our minds the effect if the students are being addicted in many gadgets that surrounded them. That is why the role of the teacher in learning is very important.

LESSON 11 The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool

LESSON 11
The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool

This lesson talks about the computer as the teacher’s handy-tool. It will also support the constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of constructivist learning. Constructivism was introduced by Piaget and Bruner. They gave stress to knowledge discovery of new meaning\concepts\principles in the learning process. Various strategies have been suggested to foster knowledge discovery, among these, is making students engaged in gathering unorganized information from which they can induce ideas and principles. Students are also asked to apply discovered knowledge to new situations, a process for making their knowledge applicable to real life situations.
Computer can provide us a lot of information in many forms, such as text, graphics, sound and video. And also multimedia encyclopedias is available now a days in the internet that is why we can access global information.
By the use of the computer it can make our report more meaningful because we can apply or display images and it is easy for the learners to understand the report. Just like what our teachers did if they thought that lesson is boring so they made power point presentations to entertain us and to provide us a meaningful learning style.
Computer really is one of the tool that can help the learners to find varies of ideas to improve the learning of the students, and by the help of the teacher also we would know the right usage of the computer.
As a future teacher we really need to encourage our student to learn more, because sometime student used only the computer to play games and etc. that’s one of the disadvantages of the computer. That is why the teacher should always remind their students to use the computer

Lesson 18 Tablets for Textbooks in schools

Lesson 18
                        Tablets for Textbooks in schools

For Philippines school, even for private ones catering to children of the well-to-do families, the so called Tablet-for-learning is still futuristic. Given, the recognized impact of technology in education, the future may not be too far away.
Today books are still the primary medium of instruction in most schools. It is doubtful if these will totally be replaced by digital technology reading tools, but there are now perceptions that virtual literacy may very well ease out textual print literacy. Already the disadvantages of using books for learning are being debated upon. For school-graders, the load of books and workbooks for every subject are backbreaking due to their weight and size. In developing countries, one-book for every student is still a goal, not a reality.
Textbooks are very important in school because every student are required to have it, and the information’s are all there. Using tablets also in learning is helpful to the students because in searching assignments, projects and etc. it is not time consuming you just search and then the information are all there.
Both tablet and textbook are both helpful and each of them also has the disadvantages and advantages. In textbook some learners felt boring in reading it some learners also they prefer reading a textbook .The disadvantages of Tablet is that not all the information that is being downloaded in the internet is reliable.
We are now in 21st century, and we all know that learners are more on technology but Tablets and textbooks are both helpful in learning the important thing is that the learners must know how to evaluate the information that they need if the source is reliable.

Lesson 17 Excel

Lesson 17
Excel

Microsoft excel is a software program that is part of Microsoft office. It is capable of creating and editing spreadsheets that are saved with a.xls file extension. Its general uses include cell-based calculation, pivot tables, and various graphing tools. For instance, with an excel spreadsheet, you could create a monthly budget, track business expenses, or sort and organize large amounts of data.
The excel documents are created with several hundred columns and rows made up of individual cells. These components may be modified in many ways including changing their color, number format, size, fonts, layout, etc.

Excel is very helpful in making a grades it will make our computation faster and not time consuming. It will also help the teacher and students to make a graph, to analyze data on any level.

Lesson 16 The Internet and Education

Lesson 16
                                                The Internet and Education

The Internet, also called the Net is the largest and far-flung network system-of-all-systems. Surprisingly, the Internet is not really a network but loosely organized collection of about 25,000 networks accessed by computers on the planet. It is astonishing to know that no one owns the Internet. It has no central headquarters, no centrally offered services, and no comprehensive online index to tell users what information is available in the system.
To gain access to the internet, the computer must be equipped with what is called a server which has a special software (program) that uses the Internet protocol. Originally developed and still subsidized by the United States government, the Internet connect not only commercial, industrial, scientific establishments but all other sectors including education and its libraries, campuses, and computer centers.
The internet really help us in our learning if we have projects, assignments in just one click in the computer the information that we need  are already there. Through the help of the internet we could really perform globally competent.
Internet now a days are really relevant in education because we are much updated on what is going on in our surroundings in our country. But of course there are things also that becomes disadvantages in using internet because some people use the internet in bad things like students can search pornography, games that is not good.

As a future teacher we must aware our student how to use the internet correctly for their own good. Because if they become educated in using the internet thy will share also their knowledge to others.

LESSON 15 UNDERSTANDING HYPERMEDIA

LESSON 15
            UNDERSTANDING HYPERMEDIA

Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia, but this time packaged as and educational software where information and student activities are integrated in virtual learning environment. Most educational IT application are hypermedia and these include: tutorial software packages, knowledge webpages, simulation instructional games, learning project management, and others.
There are two characteristics of hypermedia application first is learner control where the learner makes his own decision on the path flow or event of instruction. Next is learner wide range navigation routes such as by working on concepts he is already familiar with.
Hypermedia is very relevant in our learning in the classroom when the teacher will discuss the lesson with the accompanied power point presentation, it will help the learner to listen will because you will show them some pictures that is relevant in your discussion, and it will make them interesting.
We are now in a 21st century and the learners are more on visual learning and as a teacher it is a challenge for us to learn more about the technology, because every now and then technology  it will really help us to explain more our discussion.
As a future teacher the use of hypermedia is very useful in our profession, it will help us to give more ideas about our topic. By giving different activity to our student it will enhance their creativity in using technology.

Lesson 14 The Software as an Educational Resource

Lesson 14
The Software as an Educational Resource

Whenever people think about computers, they are most likely thinking about the computer machine such as the television like the monitor screen, the keyboard to type on, the printer which produces copies of text-and-graphics material, and the computer housing called the box which contains the electronic parts and circuits that receives or store data and directs computer operations. The computer machine or hardware is naturally an attention-getter.
Instructional software can be visited on the internet or can be bought from software shops or dealers. The teacher through his her school should decide on the best computer-based instructional materials for the school resource collection.
In my high school. the very first thing that I know in the computer are their parts , our teacher first define or introduce to us the different functions of the computer inside and outside, so that when we having our hands on activity we will be able to know what are the functions of that things.

In learning technology is very fun and interesting but we must also think that there’s a lot of temptation in using the computer like games and etc. that’s why as a student you must know how to control yourselves in dealing that things especially if you are still learning because it can really affect your studies.

Lesson 13 COOPERATIVE LEARNING WITH THE COMPUTER

Lesson 13
            COOPERATIVE LEARNING WITH THE COMPUTER

Cooperative or collaborative learning is learning by a small groups of students who work together in a common learning task. It is often also called group learning but to be truly cooperative learning, and there are five elements needed these are: a common goal, interdependence, interaction, individual accountability, social skills.
From several studies made on cooperative learning, it is manifested that cooperative learning in its true sense is advantageous since it: encourages active learning, while motivating students; increases academic performance; promotes literacy and language skills; and improves teacher effectiveness. In addition, there are studies which show that cooperative learning enhances personal and social development among students of all ages, while enhancing self-esteem and improving social relations between racially and culturally different students.
Cooperative learning is very important in classroom activity it will help the students to share their ideas and opinions about that certain topics. It will give courage also to those students who are very silent.
Every students must show or share their ideas in the discussion during group activity and this approach cooperative learning it will help us students to become more motivated in the classroom.

As a future teacher it is important that we must know different strategies in the classroom so that we can help our students to show their creativeness to solve different problems in the classroom, and by the help of several activity in the classroom it will help the students to become motivated.

Lesson 12 Information Technology in Support of Student-Centered Learning

Lesson 12
Information Technology in Support of Student-Centered Learning

In this lesson, we shall see how the teacher can expand his option to make himself more effective and relevant in the 21st millennium information age. In particular, the lesson shall respond to questions student-centered learning approaches in the classroom. From traditional teacher-centered learning approach, practical helps on designing and adapting student-learning activities shall be examined.
The teachers before used the traditional classroom and they are the one who give all the information about that certain topic. The students will only sat on their chair and listen to the lecture of the teacher, they are the one who control inside the classroom.
Now a days we could really differentiate the learning before and at this present, learners now a days are so active they are always eager to learn that is something new to them. that is why it is one of the challenges of the traditional teachers on how they will deal this challenges
Learning is changing now a days that is why as a future educators we must be flexible enough to handle this things, we should be open minded we must know how to adjust and open our hearts and mind to learn new things, about technology because this is very relevant in our field.

HISTORY OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

HISTORY OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
During the Middle Age Advent of Scholastic Philosophy, Pierre Abelard introduced a technology of instruction which was really a new method of structuring and presenting materials that helped set the style of scholastic education. The use of technology in the process of learning and teaching has improved the way in which students learn throughout the years. The 19th century paved in the advent of effective technological development including the production of textbooks, use of blackboards, and improvement in writing implements like  pen and ink. In 1920, visual media became widely accepted and in 1926, educational films were used as instructional media. In the 21st century Technologies of the future only recently focused on computers, Internet current primary trend.
Computer literacy or knowledge of computer applications is a moving target teaching students technical skills for today is valuable computer-based materials are just one component of resources available to education system. Integration of technology as a tool to advance learning in the content adds to the effectiveness of teacher’s created activities.
Now a days being connected by phone and Internet really does unite people .People communicate with people and they feel closer to and forget about weak ties, their neighbors or acquaintances faraway.
Technology is everywhere, but there are also things that is hard to solve. For example the signal in our cellphones sometimes it do not have a signal if we go to a far place near the mountains. Second is the electricity, because there are really place here in the Philippines that until now they don’t have yet an electricity.
As a future teacher we must also think that even though the world is changing there are still people who cannot adopt that changes especially those people who are living near the mountains. That is why as a teachers we must be flexible and open minded in the real world.

Lesson 9 Computers as Information and Communication Technology

Computers as Information and Communication Technology

In the Educational Technology course 1 the role of the computer in education was well discussed. It was pointed out that the advent of the computer is recognized as the third revolution in education.
Computer technology, educators saw the amplification of learning along computer literacy. Much like reading, the modern student can now interact with computer messages, even respond to questions or to computer commands. Again like writing, the learner can form messages using computer language or program.
Through computer we can discover many things about education, if we have requirements that is difficult in our side we can really search the problems in internet. Computer now a days also through computer we can communicate to our family, friends and love ones by the help of Google.
We already know the importance of technology in our education, on how helpful it is in our daily living. And as future educators, we have to be aware and active in adopting educational technology practices. Since, following the modern trends technology-related education is very essential to acquire knowledge in achieving an appropriate way of teaching-learning process.

Lesson 8 Higher Thinking Skills Through IT-Based Projects

Higher Thinking Skills Through IT-Based Projects
In this lesson, we shall discuss four types of IT-based projects which can effectively be used in order to engage students in activities of a higher plane of thinking. To be noted is the fact that these projects differ in the specific process and skills employed, also in the ultimate activity or platform used to communicate completed products to others.
On the other hand, it is the students themselves who demonstrate higher thinking skills and creativity through such activities searching for information, organizing and synthesizing ideas, creating presentations, and the like.
Based on my experienced it is really important that in teaching you really need to use variety of teaching strategies that will help the learners to learn more and by the help of the technology it will help you to explain more your topic briefly by using video clips or some pictures that could help the learners to really understand the lessons and it will help also the learners to show their creativity on how they solve problems.
The things we’ve learned in this lesson is very relevant in our learning it will improved our knowledge about technology and by that it will help us as a future teachers to show our creativity to our student and encourage them to show their own skills in creativity.

As a future teacher it is very important that we are aware of the complex thinking skills of the learners because we are diverse. We must help them to develop their ability to solve different problems in the classroom, we should motivate them more and help them to achieve their goals in life.

Lesson 7 Evaluation of Technology Learning

Evaluation of Technology Learning
In this lesson it talks about the standard student evaluation of learning must change. This is justified by the fact that not only has the new generation changed into digital learners, but the traditional world has metamorphosed into a digital world. As efforts are exerted to go digital in instruction, we need to go also in digital learning assessment.
Teachers must adopt a new mindset both for instruction and evaluation. Evaluation must be geared to assessment of essential knowledge and skills so that the learners can function effectively, productively and creatively in a new world.
In our education today, students are expected to be flexible, analytical and creative in learning even though before in the traditional the teachers are usually the one who explain the lessons to the students, but now everything has change that is why we must adopt the changes in order for us to become globally competent.

The technology indeed provided us not just window but an open door for us to see that the educational world has already evolved. That is why as a future teachers we must always encourage our student to explore that changes in order for us to gain more knowledge in technology.

Lesson 6 Developing Basic Skills

In this lesson teachers should adjust their teaching to effectively match the new digital world of information and communication technology (ICT), they must be clear on what basic knowledge, skills and values that is needed to be develop by digital learners.
In entering the new world of information and communication technology it opens the way for complex and higher cognitive skills. The new era of creativity in the digital world has led to introducing a kind of framework that requires information processing, idea creation and real-world problem solving skills.
As a student we really exposed ourselves in  technology now a days because technology is very helpful in learning, when we have lot of things to do the technology is always there to help us and we can discover many things in our own. That is why our knowledge in technology has a great impact wherever we go.
This lesson it will help us to develop our creativity to solve problems and to design things that is relevant in our learning, it will help us to become motivated in learning we can experience different learning strategies in the classroom for example to work with a team. Through that we can share our different ideas in a group and it is very effective in learning new things.
As a future teacher we could apply this lesson through letting future students experience. Let the learners discover that learning is fun, through that they can have a meaningful learning by letting them discover something new. Through that it will help them to grow more and learn more.

lesson 5 Preferences of the Technology Generation

Lesson 5
            PREFERENCES OF THE TECHNOLOGY GENERATION

Content:
What Old Generation likes may not be the same as what the new generation prefers in life, work and leisure. Much of the good things enjoyed by elders when they were students are no longer available to the new generation.  Before students engage in seedbed preparation, planting and nurturing of vegetable plants in wide school grounds are no longer part of the school program. Vocational, Cultural and Values classes that are widely used by old generations during their time today, it is also available but it has been minimized due to the emphasis on the basics of English, Mathematics and Science.
Experience:
Sometimes it’s fun to learn simple things like making a garden together with your classmates, it’s a simple way but you can see there the bonds and unity of  that certain groups. But in this generation that thing is rare, because most of the people now a days are so busy in technology. Sometimes they can’t even appreciate the beauty of surroundings.
Reflection:
In today’s generation learning are easier than before and that’s because of technology. But we must also put in mind that we must not forget the traditional way of learning, because it is also relevant it will help us to think critically wherever we are, without the help of technology.
Application:

As a future educators we must also teach our student to appreciate the traditional way of learning, because it is very important also  especially if you are a teacher and you will be assign in a place that is far from the city and that place don’t have an electricity that is why as a future teacher we must be flexible.

lesson 4 Bridging the Generation Gap

Lesson 4

BRIDGING THE GENERATION GAP

Content:
Now a days the old generation usually feels the generation gap between them and the younger generation. This is apparent in simple things like the manner of dressing, socializing, more intimate relationship like friendship and marrying, etc. still , some old things are difficult to overcome, as there are still the caste system in India, pre-arrange marriages in China, female circumcision in Africa, and theocratic or religion rule societies in the Middle East. Evn in education, traditional schooling has hardly change even with the clear evidence of a digital orld. Reflect on how some teachers confine their teaching to the board talk-test method.

Experience:
The world today is really improving, and sometimes it’s hard for us adopt the changes especially if you are the product of the traditional education. Just like me I’m one of the product of traditional education also but I tried my best to adopt all the changes now a days because it is very important.

Reflection:
I know at first it’s hard to adopt the changes, but if you begin to open your hearts and be open minded in everything, you will realize that everything is amazing and interesting.

Application:
As future educators we should know how to help older generations to overcome the changes of the world. We must open our mind and learn new things and to help ourselves to appreciate the new generation.
